AI Labs: pupils train their own AI

🎁 Included free with every Lessonsmith school subscription. Claim the offer ↓

Three ready-to-teach practical lessons in one place. Pupils join with a class code, train a real machine learning model in the browser, test it, try to trick it and explain what they found, like real AI engineers. No pupil accounts, nothing to install.

Three missions, one place

Try any lab yourself now, free: no sign-in, and nothing is saved or shared. To run one with your class, open the AI Labs teacher console.

🧠 Mission 1 · Teach the computerImage classification · k-nearest neighbours Pupils draw or use the camera to teach the computer three things, test it, and read a confusion matrix to see what it mixes up. Year 9 compares values of k with leave-one-out testing and works out precision and recall.

💬 Mission 2 · Feelings detectorNatural language processing · naive Bayes Pupils teach it happy and sad sentences, discover why "not bad" and sarcasm fool it, retrain it, then run a benchmark to see how unbalanced data creates bias.

▶ Try it👩‍🏫 Run it with a class

🕵️ Mission 3 · Phishing detectiveAI for cyber security · logistic regression Pupils decide what personal information to keep private, label a made-up inbox, build a phishing filter, catch sneaky spear phishing and choose a safe threshold for a school email filter.

Model Forge: AI skills enrichment

Nine step-by-step projects where older pupils build real AI in the browser: how chatbots predict words, computer vision, neural networks, attention, a game-playing agent, a fairness audit and real Python. Run them as live lessons, and pupils earn a certificate for each one.

🔒 Safe by design

No pupil accounts, names or emails: a class code and a random nickname. Pictures and sentences never leave the pupil's device, and everything is deleted when the lesson ends. Schools switch it on with three safeguarding confirmations, covered by our Data Processing Agreement.

♿ Accessible

Pupils can change text size and zoom, and turn on bigger buttons, high contrast, easier-to-read text, calm mode and read aloud.

For GCSE and A level: Model Forge

AI skills enrichment for older pupils. Nine step-by-step projects where pupils build, train and test real AI in the browser: a fruit sorter, a spam spotter, a next-word machine (how chatbots work) and computer vision for GCSE; neural networks from scratch, a fairness audit, word embeddings and attention, a reinforcement-learning game agent and a real Python ML notebook for A level. Run them as live lessons with a class code, save progress to class tokens, and pupils download a certificate and portfolio for each project. The teacher guide has lesson plans, answers and short training.
